Nyalam is the first major acclimatization stop in Tibet for travelers undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by road. Situated at an altitude of approximately 3,750 meters, the town is known for its scenic mountain landscapes, unique Tibetan culture, and basic accommodation facilities that help pilgrims prepare for the higher altitudes ahead.
Most overland tour groups traveling from Nepal reach Nyalam by bus after crossing the Kerung border. Pilgrims typically spend time here resting and acclimatizing before continuing their journey toward Saga, and further onward to the sacred Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash.
Due to its altitude and strategic location, Nyalam serves as an important stopover for pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via the overland bus route.
