The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage that takes devotees to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous Region. This holy journey holds deep spiritual importance for followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and the ancient Bon tradition. Mount Kailash is widely believed to be the divine residence of Lord Shiva, while the waters of Lake Mansarovar are considered spiritually purifying and sacred. The pilgrimage is usually conducted between May and September, when weather conditions allow travel in this high-altitude region. One of the most important aspects of the Yatra is the Kailash Parikrama, the circumambulation of Mount Kailash, which devotees believe helps cleanse past karma and leads them closer to moksha, the ultimate liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth.

The helicopter route is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to visit Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. In this journey, travelers fly from Nepalgunj to Simikot and then take a helicopter to Hilsa near the Tibet border before continuing by road to the Kailash region.
Most helicopter tour packages take 10 to 14 days depending on the itinerary and weather conditions. This route is shorter compared to traditional overland routes which may take two weeks or more.
No. Helicopters operate only within Nepal, mainly between Simikot and Hilsa. After crossing into Tibet, travel continues by road to locations such as Taklakot, Lake Mansarovar, and Darchen
Some walking is still required for the Kailash Parikrama (circumambulation). However, the helicopter route reduces the overall travel distance and physical effort compared to traditional trekking routes.
